Franciscan Adult Day Center offers a comfortable and secure group setting for older adults who need some assistance and companionship during the day. Participants come together for a range of structured activities to enhance their quality of life, health and well-being. These include Intergenerational learning experiences with the preschool, arts and crafts, exercise and therapeutic activities, music, games, field trips and guest presentations.
With preschool and adult day care at the St. Francis Intergenerational Center, the young and the young-at-heart come together to share in everyday experiences. These include structured activities such as games, art, music, and cultural celebrations, as well as casual interaction. Here, the two generations’ reciprocal needs are met. Young children want to be nurtured and older adults want to nurture; young children are curious and want to learn while older adults are eager to share what they know. You’ll see tricycles parked side-by-side next to wheelchairs.
Volunteers can help by assisting with arts and crafts, playing music and singing, assist with games (bingo, cards), help with exercise classes and field trips, and read to clients. Volunteers can also help youngsters with storytelling, reading books, monitoring playtime, coloring books etc. Volunteers are screened, oriented and trained upon acceptance into the program.
