Finding the Right Balance in a Demanding Healthcare Ministry
The Sisters of St. Francis and employees and guests of St. Francis Healthcare System took the time to join their hearts together to hear an inspiring message from Father Victor Lanuevo of St. Francis Healthcare System’s Spiritual Care team during a Feast of St. Francis Mass at the Saint Marianne Cope Chapel at the Liliha campus on Tuesday, October 4th.
Father Victor’s words provided encouragement and showed his deep understanding for the challenges facing those involved in the healthcare ministry.
“We all get tired and we are burdened for obvious reasons: our census is up, the traffic on the road is heavy, the charting takes forever, incoming calls seem endless and non-stop, the taking is never-ending and at times we have our own family members who are our patients,” he said.
But Father Victor reminded us of the comforting invitation of Jesus: “’Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest’…we believe in God who knows what we do and what we have done in the past, and who understands what it takes to visit a patient…We are here today because God wants to give us rest.”
He reminded us of the need to find the right balance despite our demanding schedules and desire to help others. “Being here today at Mass is a personal triumph in our struggle to find the right balance because in our absence from others, we become fully present to them…Just to be here for one another in this chapel and to experience the presence of God in our midst is a great accomplishment,” he said.
That same Spirit-inspired, refreshing fellowship continued with a feast of bentos enjoyed by the Sisters and employees of St. Francis Healthcare System after the Mass. Mahalo to the Spiritual Care team for keeping St. Francis in balance!
