When Portia Fenton walks into the kitchen at Our Lady of Kea`au, she immediately brightens up the place.
On a a recent Tuesday morning, while Portia joined others in prayer, another team busily started to prepare about 300 meals in the kitchen for Our Lady of Kea`au’s outreach efforts to those who are homeless or in transitional shelters.
“Her presence brings abundant love and cheerfulness to everyone around her,” said Maylynn Wong, Manager – Volunteer Programs. “Portia sets an excellent example for everyone at Our Lady of Kea’au and is a shining light on campus. Her joyful Christian spirit reminds us to give thanks for the day, to love one another, and to forgive readily.
Beyond her duties of preparing and distributing meals to the homeless, Portia also willingly volunteers to do whatever else is needed on campus, which includes cleaning the convent, its chapel, the commercial kitchen, or any other needs that may arise.
“Portia’s happy-go-lucky outlook on life, trust in God, kindness, and loving spirit enables everyone to be at peace during those sometimes hectic feeding days at Our Lady of Kea’au,” Maylynn said.
Congratulations, Portia!
