Roberta Lovely, RN, left, who served as a nurse at St. Francis Healthcare System and Liberty Dialysis before retiring, shared her knowledge with participants in a newly launched caregiver training series that began with bathing basics. Roberta, and Maylynn Wong, Manager – Volunteer Programs for St. Francis Healthcare System, in green top, who has extensive firsthand experience as a family caregiver, showed the participants how to change a family member’s bed linens.
The sessions provided a combination of instruction and actual, hands-on learning. Participants learned about the importance of personal hygiene, protecting the privacy and dignity of loved ones, and the tools, techniques and products for efficient bathing of a bed bound patient. There is no substitute for practical experience, so participants are also given the opportunity to know what it is like to be a care recipient.
