End of Life Care - Edited by S.Y. Tan, MD, JD
Ten fundamental end-of-life issues are identified and discussed. These include decision-making, pain management and comfort care, pastoral and spiritual care, psychosocial care, hospice and home care, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, futility, withholding and withdrawing treatment, artificial nutrition and hydration, and assisted suicide and euthanasia.
This book is the product of the St. Francis Healthcare Systems End-of-Life Project, a collaborative effort of our two hospitals, the St. Francis Medical Center and the St. Francis Medical Center-West, and of St. Francis Hospice. The focus of the project was to identify the issues, collate the various policies and make recommendations for the improved delivery of compassionate and competent care of patients at the end of life. The ultimate objective is to improve the skills of all healthcare providers in order to provide the best possible care to these very special patients.
Some useful features of the book:
- Small-sized 104 page text that is written in a simple style that can be read in an afternoon
- Listing of the relevant Catholic Directives on the various ethical issues
- A question/answer section at the end of each chapter
Beautifully illustrated text that has won three separate book awards for its artistry.
