He often starts his shift at 10 a.m. and stays until 10 p.m., working 12 hours per day, two to three times a week!
“When speaking with staff, fellow volunteers and families, those who have had the pleasure of meeting him; describe him as someone who remains calm and patient,” said Maylynn Wong, Manager – Volunteer Programs. “Always wearing a beautiful smile and infectious laugh, he goes along his day helping where ever he can, be it quietly sitting with patients or assisting with feeding.”
After serving for 20 years with HMSA as a systems programmer, Richard was not sure if hospice was “right for him” at first. If there was any doubt, Richard has demonstrated many times over that hospice is right for him. In fact, he has now taken many of our new volunteers under his wing. He has taken the responsibility of being a mentor of new volunteers on his own, remembering how strange this all was when he first started.
