Happy 2014! Every day, St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii touches lives and helps to make our community healthier and stronger. We at St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii ensure new and existing programs have the resources they need to meet the many needs in our community.
In January 2014, I had the honor to meet with Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, who wanted to personally thank St. Francis for the fine work we do of caring for people in the community and to present the first payment of a grant-in-aid award of $93,750. This award is going toward an electronic medical record system for the Clarence T.C. Ching Skilled Nursing Facility that is under construction on the St. Francis Liliha campus.
A generous gift of $1,000,000, also for the St. Francis Liliha campus, was given to us by Nan Inc., one of Hawaii’s largest construction companies, owned by Nan Chul “Patrick ” Shin, in 2013. Mr. Shin’s mother was a St. Francis patient for several years and he never forgot the kindness and care that was shown to her. Shown in the photo with me are Patrick Shin; Cathy Ching, System Board Treasurer; Cynthia Farias, Foundation Board Chair; and Jerry Correa, System President and CEO.
While major gifts like these are very important, we are very grateful for all gifts, especially when they come from the heart, that we receive. We invite you to be a part of our exciting work to change lives. With the many options of charitable giving available to you, please consider donating to St. Francis Healthcare Foundation. Your gift not only will help us enhance the quality of life for our patients, clients and their caregivers, but also will allow you to enjoy a tax deduction.
Your gift will be put to good use and help many in our community receive the services they need. Our hospice patients can enjoy quality time with their family and friends in their remaining months; older adults will have a safe place to meet other seniors for activities instead of staying home alone with no one to look after them; young children can get a good start in life with a quality preschool education; older adults living at our affordable senior living community have a ride to their medical appointments or to do their weekly shopping; families and physicians can receive much needed clarity as they navigate through difficult ethical decisions regarding the care of a loved one; families of patients can receive emotional and spiritual support during stressful times no matter what their faith; and those without homes in Waianae can receive hot meals and uplifting, encouraging words when the world has made them feel like unworthy outcasts. Your donation will help us continue to have a positive impact in our community.
You may donate securely online by clicking on the “Donate” button on our Foundation page. Or, if you wish, you may write a check payable to St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii and mail it to:
