Spiritual Services
Body, Mind & Spirit
Spiritual Services are a vital part of St. Francis Healthcare System. The Spiritual Services team includes Catholic chaplains (priests and sisters) and lay persons who believe that Spiritual Services is integral to healing and health, providing pastoral care to patients at Hawaii Medical Center East and West and also to St. Francis Hospice patients. Chaplains offer pastoral support to patients as they grieve the loss of life or health and celebrate with patients as they rejoice in the gift of life or restored health.
By focusing on the health of the whole person*, Spiritual Services can enhance an individual’s well-being. The Spiritual Services ministry follows the example of Jesus as healer and teacher, reaching out to those of all religions and cultural values. Services include visits to inpatients, prayers, sacraments, education, pastoral care, and bereavement support to families following the death of a loved one.
*Whole person health is the optimal functioning of a person, cognitively, physiologically, emotionally, societally, and spiritually in an integrated manner.
The Mother Marianne Cope Chapel at Hawaii Medical Center East, St. Francis of Assisi Chapel at Hawaii Medical Center West and chapels at the Sister Maureen Keleher Center and Maurice J. Sullivan Family Hospice Center are open for prayer and meditation.
