Aloha,
On behalf of St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii, I welcome you to our website. We hope that you will spend some time learning about us, and the role we have played in Hawaii’s health care community since 1883.
Today, we continue the legacy begun by Blessed Marianne Cope who traveled to the islands in response to King David Kalakaua’s plea for help for the Hansen’s disease patients in Hawaii. We are a Catholic healthcare system with five subsidiaries—St. Francis Community Health Services, St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii, St. Francis Healthcare Enterprises, St. Francis Residential Care Community, and Our Lady of Kea‘au—sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis.
As you may know, we divested St. Francis Healthcare System of the two hospitals – St. Francis Medical Center and St. Francis Medical Center-West – for which we were best known. The spirit of innovation that drove the growth of the hospitals also drove the progress of health care in Hawaii.
Today, we move forward in our commitment to creating healthy communities in the Spirit of Christ’s Healing Ministry through our pre- and post-acute care services, including our well-known St. Francis Hospice program, and soon with “Stay Healthy at Home,” a new, one-stop resource and referral program that older adults and their caregivers may access for a full range of supportive services.
This year, 2008, marks the 125th Anniversary of the Sisters of St. Francis’ arrival in Hawaii, giving us further reason to celebrate our successes and achievements.
We hope you will join us on our journey.

Sister Agnelle Ching, OSF
