Your hospice care begins when you are admitted to the program. It generally starts with a St. Francis Hospice health care professional first learning about your situation and taking the time to understand your needs and concerns. Your doctor and family are also involved with developing a plan of care. St. Francis Hospice has a full spectrum of health care professionals, ranging from medical directors, registered nurses, nursing assistants, chaplains, and social workers, to volunteers.

The majority of hospice care is provided in a patient’s own home. However, St. Francis Hospice offers two home-like inpatient facilities: the 12-bed Sister Maureen Keleher Center in Nuuanu, and the 24-bed Maurice J. Sullivan Family Hospice Center in Ewa Beach. These facilities are available for short-term stays when a patient’s condition progresses to the stage at which care at home becomes more difficult or when the caregiver needs respite care. St. Francis Hospice also provides care in nursing facilities.
