Sister Beatrice Tom

Sister Beatrice Tom has served in various leadership capacities since she rejoined St. Francis in Hawaii in 1989 after spending many years in New Jersey and New York, including serving as Child Care Administrator at Covenant House and Blessings House (Spiritual Life Center).

She holds an MS in Administration from Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, an MA in Religious Education from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, a BA in English and Secondary Education from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York.

She has a strong background in education, spiritual life as well as health care administration – making her the perfect one to bring the care and outreach of St. Francis to Our Lady of Kea‘au.  Our Lady of Kea‘au is a religious-centered facility that provides outreach services for the homeless and disadvantaged. The Waianae Coast center, which was dedicated in October 2005, also serves as a place of prayer, refuge and recreation for organizations and community groups to use for business meetings, retreats and celebrations.

Sister Beatrice has served on numerous boards, including the Aloha Medical Mission, the American Diabetes Association, the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation, and in various roles of the State Review Panel for the State Health Planning and Development Agency. She has been recognized by numerous organizations, including the Healthcare Association of Hawaii with a Distinguished Service Award in 2007 and by Pacific Business News as its 2006 Business Kupuna of the Year.

Music is very important to Sister Beatrice. Besides being an accomplished musician and hula dancer, she enjoys listening to religious music, third age music and classical music as a form of relaxation.

Before becoming CEO of the healthcare system, Sister Beatrice was chief executive officer of St. Francis Medical Center-West in 1989 and St. Francis Medical Center from 1990 to 1995. She was assistant administrator of St. Francis Hospital-Liliha from 1977 to 1981.
